Para los que no tengan una idea de lo que son los Independent Spirit Awards, en palabras vulgares podríamos decir que son los Oscar del cine independiente. Pero más allá de solamente tratarse de otro evento de premios, los Independent Spirit Awards es un galardón que desde su concepción, por allá de 1985, ha luchado por ganarse su lugar y de paso, exponer al público general esos filmes que no suelen llegar a los cines de circuito comercial.

First Reformed y Eighth Grade se perfilan como las favoritas para llevarse todo, le siguen de cerca Leave No Trace y You Were Never Really Here. Por otro lado, es notable que filmes como Cold War del director Pawel Pawlikowski y BlacKkKlansman de Spike Lee no fueran tomados en cuenta en la categoría de mejor director. Razones hay muchas pero, al final, no dejan de ser buenas películas que deben de verse en cualquier oportunidad que se tenga.
